🌟 JCI Senate Lipa Open Rapid Chess Tournament

Join us at the 1st JCI Senate Lipa Open Rapid Chess Tournament, which is held in celebration of the Lipa City Foundation Day, at the Lipa Convention Center (formerly known as LASCA) on June 17, 2024. This exciting chess tournament offers two divisions:

  1. TEAM Division: Form a team of three players and compete for glory.
  2. YOUTH Division: Open to players under 18 years of age.

Lipa City, founded on June 20, 1947 by virtue of RA 162, boasts a rich coffee heritage. Beyond the chessboard, explore Lipa’s cultural gems and savor its delectable cuisine. Whether you’re a titled player, a seasoned player or a budding talent, this tournament is your chance to shine!

The project is organized in partnership with Lipa Tourism Office and the Lipa City Chess Federation.

Remember, chess isn’t just about moves—JCI Senate Lipa firmly believes that chess not only instills discipline but also nurtures excellence and fostering a competitive spirit among players, especially the youth. 🏆👑

Rules for 3v3 TEAM Rapid Division

A. Who may join?

  1. The Tournament is OPEN to everybody.
  2. Titled players are allowed to join.

B. Participation/Registration

  1. Chess Portal PH (https://chessportalph.org/ratings) as of March 2024 “Rapid” rating list will be the basis of the Team Ranking and Average Rating of the Team. The maximum Average Rating of the Team should not be higher than 2000.
  2. The 1700 and below will be computed as 1700 for average rating computation.
  3. Team shall be composed of 3 boards wherein the top rated will play on board 1 and the second best rated will play on board 2.
  4. Registration shall be accepted only by google form (click here). Each participant must state the following:
    • Full Name
    • Birthday
    • Latest Rating
    • Cellphone Number
    • E-mail Address
    • FB Messenger
    • City
    • Province
  5. Deadline of registration is June 12, 2024
  6. A team can replace one(1) member of the team until 9am of June 17, 2024. Team average rating shall not exceed 2000 after the replacement. (added May 16, 2024)

C. Entry Fee

  1. ENTRY FEE is P3,000 per team.
  2. Entry fee must be paid before the registration deadline.
  3. Participants can pay via GCASH # 0908 702 5913 or scan the QR Code below and attached a screen shot of picture during the registration process.
  4. GCash QR Code to pay for the Team Registration Fee of P3,000.
  5. The tournament will be limited to 60 teams.

D. Format

  1. Swiss System Tournament of seven (7) rounds.
  2. Each player will have fifteen (15) minutes and five (5) seconds increment to finish the game.
  3. Notation is not obligatory.
  4. The playing venue will be in Lipa Convention Center. Click here for the location on Google map.

E. Arbitration and Appeals Committee

The committee will handle arbitration, registration, pairings, anti-cheating and appeals issues and composed of the following:

  1. Tournament Director
  2. Chief Arbiter
  3. Deputy Chief Arbiter

F. Scoring System and Tie-Breaks

  1. Match Point System
    • Win Match = 3 points
    • Draw Match = 1 point
    • Loss Match = o points
  2. Tie-Break will be (by order)
    • Game Point
    • Direct Encounter
    • Buchholz-cut1
    • Buchholz-cut2

G. Awarding and Prizes

  1. Total Prizes (PhP 192,000.00) will be distributed according to the following table.
  2. Prizes will not be shared.
  3. Winners are obliged to attend the closing ceremony in order to receive awards and prizes.

Rules for YOUTH Rapid Division (Individual)

A. Who may join?

  1. The tournament is OPEN to everybody UNDER 18 years old as of playing date.
  2. Titled players are allowed to join.

B. Registration

  1. Chess Portal PH (https://chessportalph.org/ratings) as of May 2024 “Rapid” rating list will be the basis of individual ranking.
  2. All participants must have proof of age.
  3. Registration will be accepted only by google form (click here).
  4. Each participant must state the following:
    • Full name
    • Birthday
    • Participant’s latest Philippine Rating
    • Cell phone
    • Email
    • Facebook Messenger
    • City
    • Province
  5. Deadline of Registration is June 12, 2024

C. Entry Fee and Payment

  1. Entry Fee is P500 per participant.
  2. Entry fee must be paid before the registration deadline.
  3. Participants can pay via GCASH # 0908 702 5913 or scan the QR Code below and attached a screen shot of picture during the registration process.
  4. GCash QR Code to pay for the Under18 Individual Chess registration fee.
  5. Participants are limited to 200 players.

D. Format

  1. Swiss System Tournament of seven (7) rounds.

  3. Philippine Rapid Rating List – May Edition) will be used.
  4. Each player will have fifteen (15) minutes and five (5) seconds increment to finish the game.

  6. The drawing of lots will be made after the end of each round.

E. Arbitration and Appeals Committee

The committee shall handle arbitration, registration, pairings, anti-cheating and appeals issues. It shall be composed of the following:

  3. Deputy Chief Arbiter

F. Scoring System and Tie-breaks

  1. Point system will be in force as the first scoring criteria
    • Win = 1 point
    • Draw = 1/2 point
    • Loss = 0 point
  2. The tie-break criteria will be (by order).

    • Buchholz-cut2
    • Highest Number of Wins with Black (played)
    • Rating Performance

G. Prizes and Awards

  1. Winners are obliged to attend the closing ceremony in order to receive the awards and prizes.
