Welcome to the Return of Lipa’s Premier Chess Celebration!

JCI Senate Lipa is proud and excited to welcome you back for another thrilling chess experience! Building on the fantastic success of our inaugural event, we invite the chess community to join us for the 2nd (JCI Senate Lipa) “Lipa Foundation Day Chess Festival” chess festivities, held once again in celebration of Lipa City’s Foundation Day.

Total Cash Prize: P354,000.00

Mark your calendars for an exciting weekend of strategy, skill, and sportsmanship on June 14th and 15th, 2025, at the Lipa Academy for Sports, Cultures and Arts (LASCA), located in Barangay Dagatan, Lipa City.

This year’s celebration features three distinct rapid chess tournaments/divisions:

The Open Rapid Division (June 14, 2025)
The Open Under 14 Rapid Division (June 14, 2025)
The 3v3 Open Rapid Team Division (June 15, 2025)

Rules for OPEN Rapid Division (Individual)

A. Who may join?

  1. The tournament is OPEN to everybody, titled or untitled.

B. Registration

  1. Chess Portal PH (https://chessportalph.org/ratings) as of March 2025 “Rapid” rating list will be the basis of individual ranking.
  2. Registration will be accepted only by google form (click here).
  3. Each participant must state the following:
    • Full name
    • Birthday
    • Participant’s latest Philippine Rating
    • Cell phone
    • Email
    • Facebook Messenger
    • City
    • Province
  4. Deadline of Registration is June 14, 2025 at 8:00 AM

C. Entry Fee and Payment

  1. Entry Fee is P650 per participant up to June 11. From June 12 to deadline, entry fee is increased to P 750.00
  2. Entry fee must be paid before the registration deadline.
  3. Participants can pay via GCASH # 0995 295-2968 (E. Malabanan). Attached a screen shot of picture during the registration process.
  4. Participants are limited to 300 players.

D. Format

  1. Swiss System Tournament of seven (7) rounds.
  2. The playing venue is the Lipa Academy of Sports, Culture and Arts (LASCA). Click here for the location on Google map.
  3. Each player will have fifteen (15) minutes and five (5) seconds increment to finish the game.
  4. Notation is not obligatory.
  5. The drawing of lots will be made after the end of each round.

E. Arbitration and Appeals Committee

The committee shall handle arbitration, registration, pairings, anti-cheating and appeals issues. It shall be composed of the following:

  1. Tournament Director
  2. Chief Arbiter
  3. Deputy Chief Arbiter

F. Scoring System and Tie-breaks

  1. Point system will be in force as the first scoring criteria
    • Win = 1 point
    • Draw = 1/2 point
    • Loss = 0 point
  2. The tie-break criteria will be (by order).
    • Direct Encounter
    • Buchholz-cut1
    • Buchholz-cut2
    • Highest Number of Wins with Black (played)
    • Rating Performance

G. Prizes and Awards

  1. Winners are obliged to attend the closing ceremony in order to receive the awards and prizes.
  2. Prizes will not be shared.
  3. Total Prizes of P132,000.00 will be distributed according to the following table.

Rules for UNDER 14 Rapid Division (Individual)

A. Who may join?

  1. The tournament is OPEN to everybody UNDER 14 years old. Any player born in 2011 and later is eligible to play.
  2. Titled players are allowed to join.

B. Registration

  2. All participants must have proof of age.
  3. Registration will be accepted only by google form (click here).
  4. Each participant must state the following:

Rules for 3v3 Open Rapid TEAM Division

Total Cash Prize = P200,000.00

A. Who may join?

  1. The Tournament is OPEN to everybody.
  2. Titled players are allowed to join.

B. Participation/Registration

  1. Chess Portal PH (https://chessportalph.org/ratings) as of March 2025 “Rapid” rating list will be the basis of the Team Ranking and Average Rating of the Team. The maximum Average Rating of the Team should not be higher than 2050.
  2. The 1700 and below will be computed as 1700 for average rating computation.
  3. Team shall be composed of 3 boards wherein the top rated will play on board 1 and the second best rated will play on board 2.
  4. Registration shall be accepted only by google form (click here). Each participant must state the following:
    • Full Name
    • Birthday
    • Latest Rating
    • Cellphone Number
    • E-mail Address
    • FB Messenger
    • City
    • Province
  5. Deadline of registration is June 14, 2025 at 5:00 PM
  6. A team can replace one (1) member of the team until 9 am of June 15, 2025. Team average rating shall not exceed 2050 after the replacement.

C. Entry Fee

  1. ENTRY FEE is P3,000 per team if paid until June 11, 2025. From June 12, 2025 to deadline, the Entry Fee is increased to P3,500.00
  2. Entry fee must be paid before the registration deadline.
  3. Participants can pay via GCASH # 0995 295-2968 (E. Malabanan). Attached a screen shot of picture during the registration process.
  4. The tournament will be limited to 100 teams.

D. Format

  1. Swiss System Tournament of seven (7) rounds.
